Hello all,
My name is Ashley Seger, also known as ‘Uncle Ashley’ by my family, and this is my blog.
I graduated college with a Computer Science degree and have worked for 20+ years in the technology field. So, what does that have to do with a DIY blog? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Over the years, I’ve worked on various “projects” for myself and family members. What is a “project”, you might ask? Well, it’s anything that I can design, build or repair. Projects range from basic household repairs to minor construction projects to baking desserts.
Build a garden box? Did it. Repair a leaky faucet? Done. Rebuild a porch. Finished it. Cardboard halloween costumes. Built and worn.
Each project starts the same way:
- I look at it.
- I think “I can do that”.
- I do a quick search on the internet for similar projects (usually with mixed results).
- I make a basic plan.
- I start the project.
- I realize my plan sucks.
- I make on-the-fly changes until the project is done.
I always have trouble finding examples of the exact project I’m working on. So, I thought I would make my own blog for projects. I’ll post projects I’ve built, quick instructions for simple repairs and whatever other misc projects I happen to work on. Hopefully, others will find it helpful.
My background and formal education is in computers but, I enjoy woodworking and basic construction projects. I picked up basic skills helping my dad with projects when I was growing up but, I didn’t really start working on my own projects until a few years ago. I’ve made my share of mistakes but, I’m learning new skills with every project that I tackle. The way I see it, every completed project makes the world a little bit better, either for myself or someone else.
Hopefully, others will find themselves in the same position and find my blog helpful. Well, that’s my basic ‘why I started my blog’ story. It’s not fancy or awe-inspiring but, that’s how it is. So, come along for the ride and together, we can make the world better, one project at a time!
